The meanings of the symbols found in the armorial bearing of the Ottoman State.

The Sun: This symbolizes the Caliphate.

The Crescent-like Moon: This symbolizes the Sultan.

The Arms: These symbolize the power of the state.

The Flowers: They symbolize reflection, knowledge, love and affection.

The Balance: This symbolizes justice.

The Book: This symbolizes the commitment to Law and Rights.

The Medals: They represent those who are successful, the recipients of state medals.

The Tughra: This is the signature of that period’s Sultan, “The Victorious Fighter for Islamic Faith, Abdul Hamid, the son of Abdul Majid Khan, the Continuously Victorious”
